Spokespeople is a Newcastle University research project that considers how digital technology and data can help make cycling in Newcastle a better experience.
Spokespeople makes it easy to record and share data about your bicycle trips including the GPS trace of your journey and any experiences that happen along the way. Spokespeople works either as a standalone Android smartphone application or with a Bluetooth button mounted on your bike handlebars. Just press and hold the button to record your route, then tap it to record an experience like a near miss, a problem with cycling infrastructure or a positive experience.
After your ride you'll receive a notification to reflect on your experiences through the Spokespeople app. Your reflections are then displayed on this website where you can browse other people's journeys and experiences, and comment and vote on the ones you think are most important.
By collecting data about your everyday experiences of cycling you can help us start a conversation about what it's like to cycle in Newcastle and how we can make it a better experience.
