Spokespeople is a Newcastle University research project that considers how technology can make cycling in Newcastle a better experience. It links cyclists with researchers, planners and policy makers and helps make their voices heard.

We are looking for participants for our field trial from Wednesday 9th to Tuesday 22nd August inclusive

To take part you need to cycle regularly in Newcastle and have an android phone. The trial will last two weeks and you will be free to keep the button and keep using the system beyond the end of the trial.

To find out more and sign up please click here. We will then be in touch to give you a bluetooth button and to tell you how to get started.

The instructions for setting up the software for this trial can be found here - part 1 and here - part 2. It's quite a long process so you might need some help. Feel free to email me at t.b.maskell2@ncl.ac.uk or call me on 07855010853.

During the trial just cycle as normal and use Spokespeople to record as many incidents as you like.

Following the trial on Thursday 24th August from 6-8pm at The Core, (Science Central, Bath Lane, Newcastle, NE4 5TF) we’ll be holding a workshop to discuss your experiences. Together we will aim to answer two questions:

  1. What does the info we collected tell us about what it’s like to cycle in Newcastle?

  2. How can we use this info to make Newcastle a better place to cycle?

We’d love to see you there. Snacks and refreshments provided. Please confirm your attendance by completing the short sign up form at goo.gl/MPXYU2

If you have any questions please get in touch at t.b.maskell2@ncl.ac.uk
